WLD is an event for more than 1,200 area high school and college students to explore how language skills and global competency can expand their future career horizons in Atlanta and abroad. WLD will be organized like a kind of resource fair in which the students will be able to go from table to table to talk with representatives from different companies, non-profits, and government organizations about the career opportunities in their fields that come with language study and cultural competency.
The goal of this event is to demonstrate to students that international skills, global competency, and language ability are valued across many different fields and careers including hospitality, business, government, national security, and technology.
Please share with them how globalization is influencing business and market decisions, how the ability to speak a second language and communicate with other cultures would help them in careers in your field, and what global competency means to your organization.
These students might not be looking for jobs now, but they are your future interns, job candidates, and volunteers. Now is a great time to impress upon them the importance of adding languages and global competency to their skillset.
Send one or more representatives to talk to students. Bring some information (and perhaps promotional items) for your table or booth. We’ll have some planned activities for students, such as a scavenger hunt, that we will give you details about in advance.
At this point, we are asking schools and exhibitors to please register at least two weeks prior to the event. Of course, if you can get this information to us earlier, it will help our planning. Please contact CULTR at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
In previous World Language Day events, set-up began at 8:15am and break-down started around 2:15pm. We ask that your representatives please stay throughout the duration of the event.
Of course! We’ll be passing out bags to each of the 1,200 students as well as their instructors, and we’d be thrilled to include information from your organization. We only ask that you get the items to our office by at least two weeks prior to the event date so that we can prepare the bags in advance.
There many ways you can support WLD, including sponsorships at the Patron ($2500), Partner ($1500) or Friend ($500) levels or by sponsoring a school bus ($250), the printed program ($500), or tote bags ($500). All of these sponsorships will go to offsetting the costs of this free event for students, as well as help CULTR expand the event to reach students across the region.
