Chinese online TV, radio stations, and podcasts

CCTV’s Learn Chinese For pure beginners, the “Growing Up with Chinese” series on CCTV’s Learn Chinese channel is a good place to start. While it isn’t quite Chinese TV in the regular sense, the clips are really easy to understand, short, and wouldn’t overwhelm the elementary learner.
Corner with Love (转角遇到爱) If you’re a beginner to intermediate learner, you’ll have a good chance of success (and great entertainment) if you follow a Taiwanese idol drama. The Taiwanese accent is clear, and idol dramas are usually set in common everyday situations that you can easily relate to (e.g. schools, offices, home). French online TV, radio stations, and podcasts
Arte Arte is a Franco-German network famous for its artistic and often avant-garde films and shows. Arte has a VOD platform allowing users to digitally borrow films and shows from their collection. Classic French cinema and documentaries are on offer, as are certain television shows.
Canal+ A private channel that’s home to some of France’s best original programming. German Pod 101 A podcast series with lessons designed for every level of ability, from the absolute beginner to the advanced speaker. The lessons feature acted out scenes, with the dialogues translated by the hosts. The hosts then delve into verb conjugations and other aspects of grammar. There’s a good rapport between them and they occasionally provide some interesting cultural insights. You can also follow these lessons by reading the transcript.
Learn German by Podcast Beginners wanting a good grounding in German language to build from will find a lot of useful material in “Learn German by Podcast.” The lessons focus on an acted out scene, which is usually repeated and then followed by a thorough dissection of the dialogue. Each podcast is accompanied by a suite of learning materials including a full transcript, a vocabulary list and exercises to try.

Foreign Language Annals


Foreign Language Annals is the official refereed journal of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) and was first published in 1967. The journal seeks to serve the professional interests of classroom instructors, researchers, and administrators across a range of contexts and is dedicated to the advancement of the teaching and learning of foreign languages, particularly languages other than English. It is published four times per year. To access the most recent issue and/or archived issues of Foreign Language Annals, membership to ACTFL is required. Language Learning & Technology


Language Learning & Technology (LLT) is a refereed journal with an editorial board of scholars in the fields of second language acquisition and computer-assisted language learning. The focus of the publication is not technology per se, but rather issues related to language learning and language teaching, and how they are affected or enhanced by the use of technologies. Since its first publication in July 1997, LLT is sponsored and funded by the University of Hawai’i National Foreign Language Resource Center (NFLRC), University of Hawai‘i Center for Language and Technology (CLT), and the Michigan State University Center for Language Education and Research (CLEAR). Language Learning & Technology is published three times per year (February, June, and October) for free on the World Wide Web, at no cost to either authors or readers. Authors maintain copyright over their individual articles and should be contacted regarding any questions about republication rights.


Language Teaching


Language Teaching is a research resource for language professionals providing a rich and expert overview of research in the field of second-language teaching and learning. It offers critical survey articles of recent research on specific topics, second and foreign languages and countries, and invites original research articles reporting on replication studies and meta-analyses. The journal also includes regional surveys of outstanding doctoral dissertations, topic-based research timelines, theme-based research agendas, and recent plenary conference speeches. Research-in-progress reports, themed comparative book review articles and a list of publications received complement the content of each issue. A thorough peer-reviewing procedure applies to both the commissioned and the unsolicited articles.


Language Teaching Research


Language Teaching Research is a peer-reviewed journal that publishes research within the area of second or foreign language teaching. Although articles are written in English, the journal welcomes studies dealing with the teaching of languages other than English as well. The journal is a venue for studies that demonstrate sound research methods and which report findings that have clear pedagogical implications. This journal is a member of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).


The Modern Language Journal


The editorial mission of The Modern Language Journal is to publish “research and discussion about the learning and teaching of foreign and second languages.” The MLJ is an international refereed journal that is dedicated to promoting scholarly exchange among researchers and teachers of all modern foreign languages and English as a second language. The journal is particularly committed to publishing high quality work in non-English languages. Its publication focus is further defined by linking the findings of research to teaching and learning in a variety of settings and on all educational levels. Article contributions are expected to meet the highest standards of scholarly excellence, advance theoretical knowledge, and explore clearly stated and well supported implications for teaching.
